New National Award to Celebrate the Best Craftsmen of the Painting Industry is Announced
On August 18, 2007, the National Board of Directors of the Painting and Decorating Contractors of America (PDCA) approved the creation of a new national award “The L.E. Travis, Jr. PDCA Craftsman of the Year Award.” This new award will recognize painters who exemplify craftsmanship in their skills, knowledge and performance as painters.
The nominees for this award will come from PDCA member companies. Employees will have to meet numerous criteria in order to be considered for the awards. Up to six winners will be chosen annually. The first recipients will be awarded at the upcoming PACE Convention in Los Angeles in January, 2008.
PDCA board member, Mario Guertin, of Palatine-based Painting in Partnership, presented the proposal for this new award to the PDCA Board of Directors. Guertin stated: “Craftsmen are the greatest asset of the painting industry. Their commitment to excellence, continual learning and sharing of their knowledge with others needs to be acknowledged and celebrated by our industry.”
Guertin added, “By honoring and featuring the profiles of such craftsmen, we will inspire painters throughout the industry and continue to educate consumers about the importance of craftsmanship and professionalism when it comes to choosing a painting company.”
Founded in 1884, PDCA is the leadership organization for the painting and decorating industry nationwide. Today, PDCA caters to over 5,000 owners and top-flight managers from nearly 2,500 painting and decorating firms across the U.S.and Canada.
